Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry started a trend when he came out with The Next Generation in the late 80s. Shows since then have been re-imagined or advanced in a universe’s time line. When a person talks about the next generation of television, he is not necessarily talking about a continuation of someone’s favorite television shows. He is talking about advances in technology or the next generation of viewing.
The most recent generation of television seeks to combine the entertainment abilities of television with the interactive nature of the World Wide Web. Cable and satellite services are finding way to let people watch older shows on the web and watch them on their TV sets. Options such as the sling box let people watch Youtube videos or other media not normally available on the airwaves over their larger television screen.
Although the next generation of television will go more fully interactive. It is already true that cable television service is delivered with cable modem. DSL providers have started to offer their own competing television services. The options in the next generation of television will offer more choices for the consumer and greater opportunities to feedback. Soon, television sets may be able to access the web the same way video game consoles do.Take a look here to learn more: Janeway, Captain Kathryn
